Show both the patch and the wall
A close photograph shows the defect; a wider photograph shows the surrounding surface, corners and lighting. Include approximate dimensions and explain how the damage happened if known. A ceiling, wall and edge beside trim can require different finishing discussions.
Address recurring conditions first
Tell the team if a crack has returned or if a stain follows a known leak. Replacing or coating the visible surface is different from resolving the cause. Ask what must be reviewed before the area is repaired so the estimate does not quietly assume that the underlying condition has already been addressed.
Define where the finish stops
Ask whether the quote covers the patch alone, preparation of the surrounding area or refinishing of the full wall. Surface texture and existing color can affect appearance. Write down any agreed limits instead of treating the word repair as a promise that every adjacent surface will be repainted.
Coordinate painting as a separate decision
If you want a room refreshed, request the painting scope at the same time. Identify ceilings, doors and trim separately. Discuss drying stages, access and protection of belongings before scheduling. A combined proposal should make the drywall and painting responsibilities easy to distinguish.
